Frequently asked questions
Free and licensed
Is it really free? What's the catch?
Yes, and there is no catch. Every sound can be downloaded without an account, without payment and without a subscription. The library is financed by voluntary donations only. Nothing is behind a paywall, and donating unlocks nothing, because there is nothing to unlock.
What does "royalty-free" mean?
It means you pay no fees for using a sound: not once, not per use, not per sale and not per view. It does not mean copyright-free. I remain the author of every recording, and you receive a license to use it. Here that license is free as well.
Can I use the sounds commercially?
Yes. In games you sell, in monetised videos, in ads, in client work and in any other commercial project, free of charge. What you may not do is sell or pass on the audio files themselves.
Can I use the sounds with AI tools like Suno?
Yes, absolutely. If you create music, audio dramas, videos, games or anything else with AI tools such as Suno, you are welcome to use my sounds in it, for example as a layer, a sample or an audio prompt. I make my own recordings without AI, that is my personal decision as an artist, and it does not have to be yours. The only things not allowed are training AI models with the sounds, building datasets from them and cloning my voice. If a tool lets you keep your uploads out of its training, please choose that option.
Do I have to credit you?
No, attribution is not required. If you would like to, it always makes me happy, for example: "Sound: Alesia-Davina, alesiadavina.com".
Can I use the sounds on YouTube, TikTok or Twitch? Will I get copyright claims?
Yes, including monetised channels and streams. The license forbids anyone to register the sounds with YouTube Content ID or similar systems, precisely so that they do not trigger claims against you. If you ever receive a claim for a sound from this library, please let me know.
Can I use them in a game I sell on Steam or on consoles?
Yes. You may ship the sounds inside your game, app or software, even though they are technically contained in its files. What matters is that they are part of your game and are not offered as audio files for others to reuse. Asset packs and templates for other developers are therefore not allowed.
Can I use them in music I release?
Yes, in songs, beats and scores, including releases on Spotify and other streaming services. One thing matters: if your distributor registers your release with Content ID, the sounds must only be one element of your track, not its main content, and any claims against others that result from it must be released. The details are in section 5 of the license.
Can I edit, pitch and layer the sounds?
Yes, as much as you like, even beyond recognition. Edited versions are covered by the license in the same way as the originals: you may use them in your project, but not pass them on as audio files.
Can my team or my client use them too?
Yes. You may share the files with everyone working with you on the same project, such as team members, contractors or your client, for that project only.
What am I not allowed to do?
In short: pass on the audio files themselves (as downloads, packs, libraries, NFTs or on other platforms), put them into templates or asset packs, claim them as your own, register them with Content ID, use them to train AI or to clone my voice, use the voices in sexual content, and use the sounds in anything pornographic, hateful or illegal, or to harm real people.
Can I use the sounds for dark, violent or disturbing horror?
Yes, that is what they are for. Fictional horror, fear and darkness in games, films, music and stories are absolutely welcome, however dark your story gets. What is not allowed is content that targets, harms or degrades real people, and any content that sexualises minors. The details are in section 4 of the license.
How can I prove that I am allowed to use a sound?
Keep a note of which sounds you downloaded and when. Every version of the license stays available on the license page. If a publisher, platform or client needs a written confirmation, write to me@alesiadavina.com.
What happens if a sound is removed later?
Nothing changes for you. Your rights to files you downloaded before a removal remain in force, and projects already built with them stay licensed.
Can the license change later?
It can be updated, but a change never applies backwards. Each download is governed by the version of the license in force when you downloaded it.
I found some of your sounds on Pixabay. Which license applies?
Some of my sounds are also available on Pixabay. Files you download there are governed by Pixabay's license, files you download here by the license of this library.
Human-made
What exactly am I promising?
Every audio file in this library, every sound effect and every voice recording, is recorded and produced by me. No AI-generated audio, no voice cloning, no synthetic voices.
Does that apply to everything still to come?
Yes. The library keeps growing, and every new file is made the same way. This is a lasting commitment, not a description of how things happen to be today.
Who am I actually hearing?
Every voice was performed by a human being in front of a microphone, with real acting and real breath, recorded with a high-quality tube microphone. There is no text-to-speech output and there are no recreated voices.
I have to declare AI use for Steam. What does that mean here?
Some platforms, Steam among them, now ask you to declare whether AI-generated content is part of your game. For the audio in this library you can answer that question with no.
Can I use the sounds to train AI?
No. The recordings may not be used to train, fine-tune or improve AI models or to build datasets, and nobody may use them to clone my voice. Using them in your own work made with AI tools, from mastering assistants to music generators like Suno, is welcome.
The library
Do I need an account?
No. There is no account, no sign-up and no login. The sounds you save are kept in your own browser.
What format and quality are the files?
Every download is a WAV file with 44.1 kHz and 16 bit. The previews you hear while browsing are compressed MP3 files, so what you download sounds better than what you hear on the site.
Can I search for a specific spoken line?
Yes. Every voice recording comes with a transcript, and the search looks through all of them. Just type the words you are looking for, for example "do you wanna play".
How often are new sounds added?
The library keeps growing, and new recordings arrive in batches as they are finished. The newest ones are always listed on one page.
