Free horror soundboard

Nine pads, nine scary sounds, one tap each. Build your own horror soundboard from 4,169 human-made sound effects and voice lines, then play it right here in your browser. No download, no account, no cost.

Your soundboard

Loading your pads...

Tap a pad to play it, tap it again to stop. On a keyboard, press 1 to 9, and 0 or Esc to stop.

Your pads

Pad 1 plays the first sound on your list, pad 9 the ninth. Use the arrows to change the order.

    How the soundboard works

    1. Find your sounds. Browse the categories, search for a word or a line of dialogue, or start with the newest sounds. Every sound has a preview you can play before you decide.
    2. Tap the star. The star saves a sound to your list, and your list fills the pads: the first sound you save lands on pad 1, the second on pad 2, and so on up to pad 9. There is only one star for everything, so your list and your soundboard always match.
    3. Arrange your pads. Use the arrows here or on your list to move a sound up or down. Moving it up gives it a lower pad number. Everything after the ninth sound waits on your list, ready to move up whenever you need a different set.
    4. Play. Tap a pad, or press its number on your keyboard. Only one sound plays at a time: starting a new pad stops the one before, just like the players everywhere else on this site. Tap the same pad again to stop it.

    Keyboard shortcuts

    1 to 9
Play pad 1 to 9. The number row and the number pad both work.
    The same number again
    Stop that pad.
    0 or Esc
    Stop whatever is playing.

The keys work while this page is the active window. Keep the soundboard open in its own browser window next to your stream, your game notes or your recording software, and one click brings it back to the front.

Made for game nights, streams and haunted houses

    • Tabletop RPG game masters. Running Call of Cthulhu, a D&D horror one-shot or a vampire chronicle? Put the whisper, the scream and the growl on three pads and fire them at exactly the right moment, without searching mid-session.
    • Streamers and YouTubers. Jump scares, creepy reactions and horror stingers on your number keys, for Twitch, YouTube or any live show.
    • Podcasts and audio drama. Play sound effects live while you record, or try out an idea before you edit.
    • Haunted houses, escape rooms and Halloween parties. A phone or a tablet with a speaker is all you need to haunt a room.
    • Theatre and live performance. Cue sounds with a tap, in a layout anyone backstage understands at a glance.

    Why use this soundboard

    • Free, with nothing to install. No account, no app, no ads. It runs in any modern browser, on your phone, your tablet and your computer.
    • 100% human-made audio. Every voice and every sound here was recorded and produced by me, with a real voice in front of a real microphone. No AI voices, no voice cloning. Read why that matters to me.
    • Royalty-free sound effects. Like what you hear? Download any sound as a WAV file from its page and use it in your own projects, commercial ones included. See the license.
    • Always growing. I keep adding new horror sounds and voice lines, so your board never has to stay the same. See what is new.

    Good to know

    Where is my soundboard saved?

In this browser on this device, together with your list. There is no account, so it does not follow you to another phone or computer, and clearing your browser data clears it too.

Can I use the soundboard on stream or in a paid game session?

Yes. The sounds are free for personal and commercial use, live streams and paid sessions included. The license does not allow anyone to register them with YouTube Content ID or similar systems, so they will not cause copyright claims against you.

Can I have more than nine sounds?

Your list holds as many sounds as you like. The pads always play the first nine, so to switch to a different set, move other sounds to the top of your list.

Why does a long sound take a moment on the first tap?

Short sounds load as soon as the page opens, so they start instantly. Long atmospheres, some of them several minutes long, load when you first tap them, to save your mobile data. From the second tap on, they start right away.

Does it work without an internet connection?

No, the sounds are streamed from the library. For offline use, download the WAV files you need from their pages.

    What is the starter board?

If your list is empty, the pads play nine sounds I picked, so you can try the soundboard straight away. As soon as you save your first sound, the board is yours.

Thank you for taking one of my sounds with you ❤️

I recorded and produced this one myself. No AI voices, no cloning.

    Everything here stays free

There is no expectation. But if a sound has found a home in your project, maybe in a game or a video you are creating, I would be deeply grateful for a small donation. Creating these sounds is how I make my living, and every bit of support helps keep this library free 🙏😌

    Credit is optional

The license does not require it. Here is a line ready to paste.

Your download is covered by the Free Sound Library license: free for commercial and personal projects, no attribution required, never resold as audio, and never used to train AI.
